A volatile, aromatic ketone substance
(C10H16O) obtained from the camphor tree. It
is distilled from chips of the wood. It is
used in insect repellents and in the
manufacture of celluloid. The camphor tree
(Cinnamonum camphora), a member of the
Lauraceae, is native to South China, Taiwan,
and Japan.
